Georgia Bill to Allow Guns on College Campuses

Jan 4, 2012 GAPolitico

I have heard from multiple sources that Rep.?Sean Jerguson will introduce a bill to allow individuals to carry guns on college campuses.?My understanding of the bill is that it will allow all law-abiding citizens to carry a gun on campus. We will let you know more when we get a finalized version of the bill.

I think it is important to have reasonable gun regulation. That said, there has been an increase in violence on college campuses. In Georgia, there seems to be an increase in violence around Georgia Tech. So, I think this is a debate worth having.

I definitely feel that faculty and professional staff should be allowed to carry guns on campus, assuming they have a permit and some training. Faculty and Staff are responsible for the wellbeing and safety of students on campus and would likely be on the frontline of any sort of violence. Additionally, I feel people should be able to carry guns for their own safety.

The question to me comes down to allowing students to carry guns on campus. I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, students are adults and it being ?illegal? isn?t going to stop a criminal. On the other hand, college is a stressful time and putting guns into the hands of criminals and more on campus seems like a recipe for disaster. This needs some more thought?

?Remember, you read it here first.
